05/25/01 Tacoma/Foss Barge Boom Terns begin nesting on Foss Barge (located near experimental tern barge). Roughly 450 terns and 15 eggs counted at the site.
05/25/01 Tacoma/Foss Barge Boom Terns abandon Foss barge and begin nesting on Crowley barge (both located near experimental tern barge). Roughly 690 terns on barge, of which 50 are apparently incubating eggs.
05/27/01 Tacoma/Experimental Barge Terns nesting and roosting on experimental barge appear to have reached near maximum capacity (roughly 400 terns).
05/28/01 East Sand Island Twenty recently hatched tern chicks were collected from the colony for captive rearing experiments
05/30/01 Tacoma/Foss Barge Crowley Barge moved off the Foss barge boom causing terns to relocate to adjacent barges (roughly 620 terns).
05/31/01 Tacoma/Experimental Barge Experimental tern barge was dismantled and removed from Commencement Bay at the request of the Puyallup Tribe. Nearly 1,000 tern eggs were collected from the barge by WDFW.
06/01/01 Tacoma/Foss Barge Boom Following the removal of the experimental tern barge, terns abandoned roost and nest sites on barges on the Foss barge boom.
06/03/01 Tacoma/Commencement Bay Only 175 terns counted in the Commencement Bay area (compared to 675 - 900 terns prior to the removal of the experimental tern barge).
06/07/01 Miller Rocks Nesting terns (32 total terns, 17 incubating) discovered on Miller Rocks in early incubation. Miller Rocks is located on the Columbia River near the mouth of the Deschutes River.
06/07/01 East Sand Island Terns attempting to nest on a satellite colony above the high-high tide line on the beach southeast of the East Sand Island tern colony (250 total terns, 100 incubating)
